Now You’ll Know Where George Got His Idea

Skim Bob’s column about how we met and you’ll notice something strange yet familiar.

Those that have swell reading retention might notice that a certain motion picture from the 80’s stole our real life adventure and made into a space movie. Yet we got zero stinking pennies from it.

We tried. We wrote letters to George, tried to send him something called a fax which we had never heard of before and called many, many times which cost quite a lot back then since it was considered “long distance”.

We even considered a singing telegram, but Bob is scared of clowns and tap dancers so that went nowhere.

So we just sat back and read about him raking all this dough while we were forced to drink cheap beer.

But cheap beer is also good since it’s cheap which means that we could drink more. And the more we drank, the more angry we got.

Finally, in 1983 we got our chance. George had another movie coming out and this one was expected to be huge so we got our tickets, drank a bunch of cheap beer, took a couple seats in the first row of the theater and continued to drink cheap beer that we had smuggled in.

When the movie was over, we turned to each other and said (at the same time!), “We prolly do thish. Better!”

A few years later, we did.

And it was a hit.

Stephen Johnson

The idea of building a website with Bob came from Stephen in the days of message boards and chat rooms. We settled on the name TheWeirdcrap.com and the rest is history. Retired since he hit the ripe age of 25, he spends most his time doing odd-jobs around the house and digging thru trash bins for "stuff that's still good." Stephen has contributed several short stories and hosted the "Lunatic Ravings" column since the beginning (1999). The idea of writing weekly columns came from Stephen before blogs or blog sites ever existed. So, I guess that makes him THE FIRST BLOGGER IN THE WORLD!!!
