By Bob Senitram
Thinking up the nonsense, and then some…
Later that day Bob visits Dr. Hector.
“Hello, Dr. Hector.”
“Special Agent Senitram, how nice to see you. Did you follow the breadcrumbs?”
“I found it. Yes.”
“And what did you make of my little surprise?”
“I thought it was…stupid.”
Earlier that day, Bob stood in the entrance of the storage unit that contained one solitary object.
A small box.
With a little handle.
Bob pulled out his gun and slowly approached.
He slowly approached, then put his gun away.
He kneeled down.
He turned the handle.
Music…
“Blinkity, blinkity, blink-blink-blink. Blinkity, blinkity, blink-blink-blink.”
Then a clown popped up.
It scared Bob and he pulled out his gun again and looked around.
The attendant ducked.
Then a recording played, “Made You Look…made you look…made you look.”
Then it stopped.
“Dale Yookoum, it’s an anagram, isn’t it, Doctor?
“Heh, ‘Made you look’, kinda funny, isn’t it?” Hector asked.
“Hilarious.” Bob answered.
“Perhaps, the one you seek, wants to be sought…” Hector adds.
“Your talking about Hopalong Hank?” Bob says desperately.
Hector rolls his eyes, “Of course I’m talking about…”
“So Hopalong Hank wants to be found?”
“Perhaps. Perhaps he thinks he’s helping others. Helping others to see. To see the light.” Hector’s eyes widen.
“So he thinks he’s helping people?”
“Could be…”
“Maybe he’s just like you. You think you’re helping people, Agent Senitram?”
“I try, Doctor.”
“And how much of that is real and how much is your own perception.”
“I dunno?”
“Perception can be a powerful tool, or a powerful liar. Depends on if your looking out, or looking in…” Hector adds.
“So the outside is in, when the inside is out? Come on, that’s gibberish.”
“How did my little toy make you feel?”
“Felt like I was being pranked.”
“Fair enough. Dr. Benson is helping your career a great deal, do you think he see’s himself in you?”
“Not really.”
“You come from nothing, he came from nothing. Surely you see the parallels.”
“Didn’t think much about it.”
“Aaaaaah, Dr. Benson. A lowly butler, serving a wealthy family, later securing a job as a caretaker of the governor himself. Advancing to the governors advisor. All the while attending college. Then a PHD. He used his contacts from the governor’s office to secure acceptance to the FBI. Now, Captain and head of the crime unit itself.”
“…He’s come a long way, that Dr. Benson.” The Doctor continued.
“Yeah, I don’t know about any of that stuff.” Bob admits.
“Of course not.” Hector concludes. “Did you consider…why the jack in the box?”
“I dunno, ’cause your a dick-wad?”
“And the yellow hat? Surely you see a connection?”
Bob contemplates for a moment, “I got nuthin’. How is all this connected to Hopalong Hank?”
“All good things to those who wait. I’ve been here for ten years. How long can you and Benson wait?”
“Uuuuuuummmmmmm, Takes one to know one.” Bob didn’t know what else to say.
“Your blind, perhaps Benson can help you see.” Hector concluded. “Go now, run along.”
Bob walks away shaking his head realizing this has all been a waste of time.
AND NOW YOU KNOW!!!!
But wait, there’s more…
