If you’re wondering about the 25 year history of TheWeirdcrap.com and thinkin’ “If they started the same time as Google, shouldn’t that site be a muliti-billion dollar industry by now?” Seems like it, but we don’t got much smarts in the business sense, heck, we can barely afford to stay online.
Here’s the song that describes what it was like bein’ a new upstart in 1999…
Steve and Bobby were getting’ kind-a itchy,
Just to leave the writing behind.
Serg and Larry workin’ for a penny,
Tryin’ to get a search on-the-line.
In a house garage Google sat,
And after every search-try they passed the pipe.
America Online just a-gettin’ higher in V.A.

And no ones getting’ fat, ‘cept Yahoo Search.
Serg said, “Larry, you know there aren’t many
Who can program the way that you do, lets go live.”
Larry said, “Sergey, don’t you think I wish,
I could data-mine like you.
Sergey and Larry sat all the night out,

When Steve was sophomore, planned to go to LA
But his car died one day.
Standin’ in the turnpike, thumb out to hitch-hike
“Take me to LA right away.”
He only got as far as Omaha
Larry and Sergey couldn’t get no higher
But that’s what they were aimin’ at
And no ones getting’ fat, ‘cept Yahoo Search.

Guess it had to be that way.
Larry and Serg formed the Google;
America Online just a-catchin’ fire in V.A.,

And everyone’s getting’ fat ‘cept TheWeirdcrap.
Broke-Busted, disgusted, ads can’t be trusted
And Stevie wants to go to the East
Bob can’t make it; says we’ll have to fake it…
We knew he come eventually
Weirdcrap runs on American Express cards;
Rents low, but keepin’ on heat’s hard
Bob’s good vibrations and our imaginations
Can’t go on indefinitely
And internet fame is no longer a reality…
AND NOW YOU KNOW!!!!
