The Real DJ Story

Bob’s latest columns are all about lies.

Considering his age, disco wasn’t even a thing when he was in high school. Neither was funk.

Nope. He basically stole the story of my life and went ahead and let you think it was all about him. This is the reason why he only gets email from gambling, gaming and aluminum siding sites.

I was the DJ and was (and still am) what I play. I was hired while still in elementary school because I had that “it” factor. They found me at the corner candy store demanding that they get in more Charleston Chews and they just loved my voice so.

“Your voice is made for radio, kid!” That’s what they said many times over.

One day I was sleeping in my bed at home, the next I was in the big city. At the station they gave me a stack of vinyl and told me to have at it. So I did.

Between episodes of “The Jack Benny Show” and “The Frog-Stomporama Variety Hour”, I played the music of the day. Maybe I did some weather, maybe some sports scores, but it was mostly spinning those discs.

Sadly, those days came to an end when I played a song from The Glenn Miller Orchestra right after a song from The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and that was a big no-no back in those days.

Next thing I knew, I was out of the big city and back in my bed.

Years later, I was listening to an FM station out of New York and they played something from Christopher Cross followed by something by Black Sabbath. I like to think this was done as a shout out to me.

And there you have the no lies story.

Stephen Johnson

The idea of building a website with Bob came from Stephen in the days of message boards and chat rooms. We settled on the name TheWeirdcrap.com and the rest is history. Retired since he hit the ripe age of 25, he spends most his time doing odd-jobs around the house and digging thru trash bins for "stuff that's still good." Stephen has contributed several short stories and hosted the "Lunatic Ravings" column since the beginning (1999). The idea of writing weekly columns came from Stephen before blogs or blog sites ever existed. So, I guess that makes him THE FIRST BLOGGER IN THE WORLD!!!
