The Journey To HR, Part 76!

As the people tried to avoid me as best they could, I swallowed the chewed up card.

Then I belched.

Bright, shiny speckles flew from my mouth.

I smiled for some reason.

A child, no more than 18 years old, pointed at me.

“It’s GLOWING!” he exclaimed.

I looked where he was pointing and saw that the tag on my left index finger was glowing.

Indeed, it was!

I gave the young whippersnapper a thumbs up.

He didn’t return the thumbs up.

“Kids these days,” I muttered to myself.

Then I began drooling, but really didn’t mind.

I looked at the glowing tag again and touched it.

There was a bright flash of light.

The screams of the people were cut off.

I found myself floating in pure blackness, surrounded by stars.

A satellite floated by.

I touched it.

It said nothing, even though, for some crazy reason, I expected it to.

I grabbed it and held on.

It floated along.

There was a button on the satellite.

Above the button was a sticker.

“Please, whatever you do, whatever frame of mind you might be in, however you might feel, do NOT push this button. Please. We beg you. DON’T PRESS THIS BUTTON! Ok?”

It was a rather large sticker.

I read it again as we floated along.

“Probably just some reverse psychology,” I said, but no sound came from my mouth.

So, I probably just thought that thought to myself.

I ran thru maybe two or three variables thru my head and came to a decision.

“Here goes nothing or something,” I said soundlessly and reached for the button with my tagged finger.

“STOP!” someone yelled.

I heard that?

Stephen Johnson

The idea of building a website with Bob came from Stephen in the days of message boards and chat rooms. We settled on the name TheWeirdcrap.com and the rest is history. Retired since he hit the ripe age of 25, he spends most his time doing odd-jobs around the house and digging thru trash bins for "stuff that's still good." Stephen has contributed several short stories and hosted the "Lunatic Ravings" column since the beginning (1999). The idea of writing weekly columns came from Stephen before blogs or blog sites ever existed. So, I guess that makes him THE FIRST BLOGGER IN THE WORLD!!!
