A reader recently asked me about the future of AI.
Now I have to be very careful here.
Because if I spill the beans too much I could cause some serious trouble.
In fact, America may now be speeding its way into a dystopian authoritarian nightmare because of things I have written on this website.
But don’t blame me for that.
Blame Bob.
It’s his website.
So in lieu of any specifics let me just throw something out there to maybe help give the more intelligent of you out there an idea of where this is all heading.
So here’s the way AI works. They feed it tons and tons of data—the more data the better. The algorithm analyses the data and stores the information in a sort of artificial neural network. So when an AI responds to an inquiry, it’s drawing from this huge repository of data with which it has been fed.
Are you with me so far?
Now as AI becomes more and more integrated into our society, more and more the results it has provided will begin to have real-world effects as people inevitably begin to implement the changes it has suggested.
Now so far all the data the AI has been fed regarding humans has come from natural human activities. “Natural” meaning not having previously been influenced by AI.
But as they keep feeding new data into the systems eventually that will begin to change.
Because now human activities are being influenced by the AI.
And with new data, the systems establish new baselines of what it means to be human.
Rinse and repeat.
Oh, and also by the way AI is just plain wrong sometimes. As in it just makes stuff up. And you can’t tell that it’s wrong unless you painstakingly want to double-check everything it has told you. Which if you think about it kind of defeats the whole purpose of AI.
Now for most of you I am sure I just told you nothing. Or next to nothing.
But I’m banking I’ve got at least one or two keen readers out there who will catch my drift and be able to follow its direction to the inevitable stupid ending.
Because AI isn’t the big danger here.
People are.
