Sober Musings

I have reached the age where I am now realizing that the older you get the more liable you are to question whether certain things are even worth doing or not, or if you have done them before, if they are worth doing again.  Of course this is because of your growing sense of your own mortality and pending demise which tends to make one more discerning about how one chooses to parcel out one’s remaining time.

Of course this sort of thinking is folly.

But that’s neither here nor there.

So I will give you an example of the sort of thing I am talking about.

I just started to watch Eraserhead.  Never seen it before.  But of course I know of it and am probably in the minority among most of my friends for never having seen it.

Well, I’m not even 10 minutes into it and here I am writing about it because I decided that would be a better use of my remaining time than to watch any more of it.

I kid!  I knew what I was getting myself into when I started watching it.  More or less.  I will probably go back and watch the rest of it just as soon as I get done here.  But it may take some discipline.

Books are another good example of the sort of thing I am talking about.

I don’t know how many books I’ve read in my life, or how many more books I’ve yet to read.  The answer to the first part is a lot, and I can only hope that is the answer to the second part as well.

Some of those books were even good enough that I’ve read them multiple times.  And some of them I will probably read again.  Herman willing.

But there’s a lot more to life than just reading books.  There’s music.  And there’s Adventure.  And that’s not even getting into things like television or movies, or sports (which I care nothing about anyway), or all the other sorts of things that people enjoy doing.

And don’t even get more going about writing.

But you know, I think if I had to choose just one thing and give up everything else, then that would be it.

But damn would I hate that, and I do believe my writing would suffer for lack of all those other diversions.

Speaking of which…I’ve got a movie to make myself finish watching.  Provided my old ass makes it that long.

Because I’m pretty sure I could think of at least a dozen ways I would rather go out than watching Eraserhead.

Spamrider

Spamrider of the Apocalypse is just some crazy dude who contacted us out of the blue one day claiming to be a time traveler who had discovered that he had already been publishing information on our website for years while he was visiting the future.  Neither me or Steve had ever heard of him before so we don’t know if he’s ACTUALLY crazy or what, but he’s definitely weird, and is probably full of crap, so we both just looked at each other, shrugged are shoulders, and pretty much just went with it.
