It started out just like any other day, with several product information
requests in her Inbox. The second request was marked "Urgent", from one of their biggest customers. She
knew she didn't have the high quality digital photo they wanted, for the third time this week.
"Maybe I'll take a look at some digital cameras for the office," she thought.
She entered "digital cameras" into her beloved Ebay toolbar and a huge array of cameras for sale presented
themselves before her. Having never purchased one, she was lost in the sea of specs, describing megapixels, zooms,
file formats and more.
"Maybe I'll take a look at some review sites so I know what I'm looking for," she thought. She entered
"digital camera review" into her beloved Google toolbar (setting the highlight tool for the word "review",
of course).
Site after site presented themselves before her. Some were just the usual price watchers, and she had to spend
a good fifteen minutes sifting through for the actual sites where people gave reviews without selling anything.
Mallory, who worked in the cubicle next to her, startled her as she peeked around the corner. "Wanna go out
to lunch?"
"Oh, my God!" she exclaimed, realizing she had been on review sites for the last two hours. "You'd
better go ahead. I'm in the middle of a project. I am so swamped today..."
The reality of time struck her, and she firmly told herself she would have to focus on one camera. The Fujifilm
Finepix A202 looked sufficient for the purpose, so back to the Ebay toolbar she went.
Someone had a really great price going, so she put it on watch. In the camera description, the seller mentioned
photo application software that came with the camera. "I wonder what the best software is for that",
she thought. "I'm probably going to have to touch up some of these before I send them out."
Her stomach growled loudly and she was grateful that no one was in either cubicle. She dug into her top desk drawer
for her stash of granola bars and proceeded.
As it turned out, there was a great program on Tucows (which was the third software site she had to search). They
had a free trial, so she decided that was the way to go before spending any money on a program they didn't like.
Her connection dropped twice, causing the 16.6 MB download to take a significant amount of time, but at least it
was free.
Unfortunately, it was a zip file, and she had no clue how to open it. Back to Google she went, to identify the
file type. She was proud of herself for quickly locating Winzip. The download only took 37 minutes.
After installing the program, it occurred to her that she hadn't defragged in two weeks, so she decided this was
as good a time as any. She rearranged her desk while the system defragged.
The photo program was absolutely overwhelming. It had all the bells and whistles she had hoped for, and she tried
out every filter on her sample photo. It took about an hour, but she knew it was time well spent, because this
was definitely what they needed. It was time to go back to Ebay to see if anyone had it for less.
After trying to snipe 34 auctions, she realized she would be able to do just as well by buying the program from
the first site she went to. Unfortunately, that would have to wait for tomorrow.
It was now 4.52 PM, and she was exhausted. It had been another intense day at work. She regrouped and pulled out
her day planner for an update. It appeared that she hadn't been able to check off one thing, so she transferred
the whole list to the next page. She couldn't help noticing that the planner was really getting ragged, and it
was too big to put in her laptop bag. Maybe she needed to take a look online and see what new planners were going
